La comida!


(Uno de mis temas favoritos Hahaha!)  En el tema de Hoy veremos algo de Vocabulario Para cuando nos referimos a la comida y también veremos algunas medidas que se usan para cuando se escriben recetas de cocina . Estos temas son muy comunes y es indispensable tratarlos cuando de inglés Básico se habla.



 Un pequeñito Vocabulario sobre comida 

Vegetales
  • POTATO: Patata
  • PEAS: Guisantes
  • GARLIC: Ajo
  • CARROT: Zanahoria
  • CAULIFLOWER: Coliflor
  • PEPPER: Pimiento

Este tema es muy visto, y es muy divertido de ver! lo que más aprendemos aquí, son las
medidas que se usan para especificar los Ingredientes y son:
  • A can of --- Una Lata de
  • A kilo of --- Un kilo de
  • A cup of --- Una taza de
  • A glass of --- Un vaso de 
  • A teaspoon of --- Una cucharadita de 
  • A pinch of --- Una pizca de
  • (Two pinches of --- Dos pizcas de)
  • A packet of --- Un paquete de
  • A bag of --- Una bolsa de 
  • A box of --- Una caja de 
  • A liter of --- Un litro de
  • A half of --- Una mitad de
  • Etc., etc.

Pam's Chicken Casserole


From Pam:
This is an old family recipe, that I have served over and over. After every get together, I am asked for the recipe.

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 chickens, cut and shredded (I use boneless chicken breasts)
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup chopped green bell peppers
  • 2 T. Butter
  • 1 (10 oz) pkg. noodles or fettuccine, cooked & drained
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1 can (4oz) mushroom pieces, drain
  • 1 can cream mushroom soup
  • 1 can cream chicken soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 small jar pimento, chopped
  • 1 (8oz) can sliced water chestnuts
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (I use more as we like cheesy things)

Preparation:

Cook chicken and shred. Sauté veggies, in butter. Cook noodles and drain. Mix all together in casserole, reserving a little cheese for topping, if desired. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until hot through and cheese is melted. Top with more cheese and continue to cook for a few minutes, until cheese is melted.
Pam's Note: This freezes well also, if you have any left, which I never do. I serve this with salad, rolls and ice tea. Enjoy!

Easy vanilla butter cake

Cooking Time

150 minutes

Ingredients (serves 15)

  • Melted butter, to grease
  • 450g (3 cups) self-raising flour
  • 150g (1 cup) plain flour
  • 440g (2 cups) caster sugar
  • 300g butter, cubed, at room temperature
  • 310ml (1 1/4 cups) milk
  • 6 eggs, at room temperature
  • 3 tsp vanilla essence
  • Method

    1. Preheat oven to 140°C. Position a rack on the second lowest shelf of the oven. Brush a round 25cm (base measurement) cake pan with the melted butter to lightly grease. Line base and sides with non-stick baking paper.
    2. Place the self-raising flour, plain flour, sugar, butter, milk, eggs and vanilla essence in a large mixing bowl. Use an electric beater to beat on low speed for 30 seconds or until just combined. Increase the speed to high and beat for 1-2 minutes or until the mixture is thick and all the butter is incorporated. Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan and smooth the surface with the back of a spoon.
    3. Bake in preheated oven for 2 1/2 hours or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. Remove from oven and set aside for 10 minutes. Turn onto a wire rack for 2 hours or until completely cool.

    Notes

    • Have the butter at room temperature, soft enough to beat, but not melted. The undecorated cakes will keep in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
